"Dhow cruise" in Dubai usually means one of two quite different experiences depending on where it departs from, and the two aren't interchangeable — picking the wrong one for what you actually want is the most common regret we hear about.
Dubai Creek: traditional and historic. The Creek route sails through Old Dubai — past the traditional wooden dhow harbor, the gold and spice souk district, and Bur Dubai's older architecture. Within either route, the standard tier gets you dinner, entertainment, and the cruise itself on a shared boat; the premium tier typically means a better deck position, a more substantial buffet, and sometimes a smaller, less crowded boat. The difference is real but moderate — it's an upgrade in comfort, not a different experience.
Who should pick Creek: first-time visitors who haven't done an Old Dubai activity yet, and anyone who prefers a quieter, more historic atmosphere over a party-adjacent one.
Who should pick Marina: visitors staying in or near the Marina/JBR area already, and anyone who wants the modern skyline view and a slightly livelier atmosphere on board.
The honest bottom line: neither route is objectively better — Creek for atmosphere and history, Marina for skyline and energy — and the standard tier on either is genuinely good value; premium is worth it mainly if a better seat and quieter boat matter to you specifically.
